  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine prunes and boiling water. Let stand for 10 minutes, then drain and chop.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Fold in the chopped prunes and walnuts.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
