Maple-Gingerbread Layer Cake with Salted Maple-Caramel Sauce
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the molasses and maple syrup. Mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the buttermilk. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
-
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream, light brown sugar, and sea salt over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
-
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and drizzle with the salted maple-caramel sauce. Repeat with the remaining cake layers, stacking them on top of each other and drizzling with the sauce. Serve and enjoy!
