Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Prepare the lemon cake mix according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for the specified time.

While the cake is baking, dissolve the lemon Jello in boiling water. Stir in cold water and set aside.

Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the cake.

Slowly pour the prepared Jello mixture over the cake, making sure it seeps into the holes.

Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour to allow the Jello to set.

Spread whipped topping over the chilled cake and sprinkle with lemon zest.
