Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, butter, and 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. Mix until well combined.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a separate mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and remaining teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. Mix until well combined.

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of the cream cheese mixture on top. Place the second cake layer on top and spread the remaining cream cheese mixture on top.

Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour.
