Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a muffin tin.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate bowl, mix together the applesauce, honey, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the muffins cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
