Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line a loaf tin.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the lemon zest and juice.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and poppy seeds.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.

Pour the batter into the prepared tin and smooth the top.

Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cake is still warm, make the drizzle by mixing the lemon juice and icing sugar together.

Prick holes all over the top of the cake with a skewer and pour the drizzle over.
