  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and cardamom.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  4. Add yeast mixture, eggs, and orange zest to the flour mixture. Mix well.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins, candied cherries, and almonds.
  8. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  9. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for another 1 hour.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake the Julekage for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  13. Transfer to a wire rack and let it cool completely before serving.
