  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the sour cream and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  3. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle with half of the nuts (if using). Spread the remaining batter over the top, and sprinkle with the remaining nuts.
  4. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to cool completely on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
