  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a pumpkin-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange food coloring.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and orange food coloring until smooth.
  9. Frost the cooled cake with the cream cheese frosting.
  10. Use green food coloring to draw a stem on top of the cake.
  11. Decorate the cake with chocolate chips to resemble a Jack-o'-Lantern face.
  12. Let the cake rest for 1 hour before serving.
