Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 20cm (8-inch) round cake tin and line the base with parchment paper.

Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir until smooth and combined. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and caster sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the cocoa powder, ground almonds, and melted chocolate mixture. Mix until well combined.

Stir in the boiling water and vanilla extract. Pour the batter into the prepared cake tin.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the cake is set around the edges but still slightly wobbly in the center. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a chilled bowl, whip the whipping cream and icing sugar until soft peaks form.

Spread the whipped cream over the cooled cake and decorate with fresh berries.
