Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, macerate the strawberries. In a small bowl, combine the strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Let sit for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
