  1. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions.
  2. Once the cake is baked and cooled, slice it horizontally into two layers.
  3. Place one layer of cake in the bottom of a springform pan.
  4. Spread a layer of hot fudge sauce over the cake.
  5. Scoop one quart of vanilla ice cream onto the fudge layer and spread it evenly.
  6. Place the second layer of cake on top of the ice cream.
  7. Spread another layer of hot fudge sauce over the cake.
  8. Scoop another quart of vanilla ice cream onto the fudge layer and spread it evenly.
  9. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  10. Before serving, remove the cake from the pan and garnish with whipped cream and maraschino cherries.
