Ingredients
  • 4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 4 ounce Marzipan
  • 1/2 cup Candied orange peel, chopped
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and milk.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Flatten each piece of dough and place a small piece of marzipan and some chopped candied orange peel in the center.
  8. Fold the dough over the filling and shape it into a ball.
  9. Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
  12. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
  13. Optional: Pipe a cross shape on top of each bun using icing sugar mixed with water.
  14. Serve and enjoy!
