Hot Cross Buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday in the United Kingdom, but they have become popular worldwide as a sweet treat during Easter.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Let it cool slightly.

Add the milk mixture and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and knead in the raisins.

Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

Place the balls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a small bowl, mix powdered sugar and lemon juice to make the glaze.
