  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, prepare the chocolate pudding by whisking together the instant chocolate pudding mix and milk. Let it set for 5 minutes.
  6. In a separate bowl, beat the butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy.
  7. Gradually add the chocolate pudding to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.
  8. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  9. Spread the chocolate pudding mixture over the warm cake.
  10. Let the cake cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
  11. Before serving, spread whipped topping over the cake.
