  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  7. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until just simmering.
  11. Remove from heat and add the chocolate. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  12. Let the ganache cool for about 30 minutes, then refrigerate for 15-20 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  13. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of ganache on top.
  14. Repeat with the remaining cake layers and ganache, finishing with a layer of ganache on top.
  15. Dust the top with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh raspberries.
  16. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
