  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cake flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the whole milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Fold in the cherries.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  11. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth.
  12. Once the cake has cooled, spread the whipped cream over the top and sides.
  13. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cake in a decorative pattern.
  14. Allow the chocolate to set for a few minutes, then garnish with whipped cream.
