Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a separate bowl, mix together the unsweetened applesauce, maple syrup, coconut oil, vanilla extract, almond milk, and eggs.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until well combined. Fold in the dark chocolate chips.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
