  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Roll out half of the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  3. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  4. In a large bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  5. Add the sliced apples to the bowl and toss until coated with the sugar mixture.
  6. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
  7. Dot the top of the apples with butter.
  8. Roll out the remaining pie crust and place it over the apples.
  9. Trim and seal the edges of the pie crust.
  10. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
