The traditional Texas sheet cake is usually made with chocolate, but this variation uses a white cake base with a delicious pecan icing.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 10x15-inch baking sheet.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar.

In a saucepan, melt the butter and add water. Bring to a boil.

Pour the boiling butter mixture over the flour and sugar mixture. Mix well.

Add buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract, baking soda, and salt. Mix until smooth.

Pour the batter into the greased baking sheet and spread evenly.

Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the cake is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, prepare the icing. In a saucepan, combine powdered sugar, milk, and remaining butter. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Remove the cake from the oven and pour the hot icing over the hot cake.

Sprinkle chopped pecans over the icing.
