  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and molasses.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the boiling water. Mix well after each addition.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar.
  9. Slice and serve.
