Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the molasses.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar before serving.
