In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground ginger, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Fold in the sliced pears.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cake is baking, prepare the caramel glaze. In a small saucepan, melt the brown sugar, unsalted butter, and heavy cream over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly.
