Ginger-Apple Upside-Down Cake
Upside-down cakes have been popular since the Middle Ages and were traditionally made with seasonal fruits.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a 9-inch round cake pan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

Add the brown sugar and ground ginger to the melted butter, stirring until well combined.

Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on top of the butter-sugar mixture.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt.

In a separate bowl, cream together the remaining butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with the milk.

Pour the batter over the apple slices in the cake pan.

Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
