  4. Stir in the boiling water to thin the batter. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the fudge frosting. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsweetened chocolate and butter together. Stir until smooth.
  9. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and heavy cream. Mix until smooth.
