Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23cm) round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the applesauce. Fold in the chopped walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve and enjoy!
