Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a football-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Once the cake is completely cooled, prepare the buttercream frosting. Divide the frosting into two bowls. Add green food coloring to one bowl and mix until desired shade is reached.
  8. Frost the cake with the white buttercream frosting, leaving a small area in the center unfrosted for the football design.
  9. Use the white decorating icing to draw the laces on the football-shaped cake.
  10. Optional: Decorate with football-shaped candies for added flair.
  11. Let the cake rest for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld together.
  12. Enjoy your delicious Football Cake!
