Fay’s Picnic Cake
Picnic cakes were traditionally made to be easily transportable and enjoyed outdoors during picnics.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, top the cake with fresh berries.
