  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the heavy cream and almond extract. Pour the cream mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in the fresh cherries and sliced almonds.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
  7. Use a sharp knife or a biscuit cutter to cut the dough into 8 wedges or rounds.
  8. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
  10. Sprinkle the scones with powdered sugar before serving.
