  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine elderberries, sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
  4. Pour the elderberry mixture into the pie crust.
  5. Dot the top with butter.
  6. Roll out the remaining pie crust and cut it into strips.
  7. Create a lattice pattern on top of the pie by weaving the strips.
  8. Beat the egg with water to make an egg wash.
  9. Brush the egg wash over the lattice crust.
  10. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  11. Let the pie cool for 30 minutes before serving.
