Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).

In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, and salt.

Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Stir in the sugar and raisins or currants.

Gradually add milk to form a soft dough.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead lightly.

Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 2 cm (3/4 inch).

Cut into rounds using a scone cutter or a glass.

Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
