  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well blended.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns into a golden caramel.
  4. Pour the caramel into a pie dish and swirl to coat the bottom.
  5. Pour the milk mixture over the caramel in the pie dish.
  6. Place the pie dish in a larger baking dish and fill the larger dish with hot water halfway up the sides of the pie dish.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the center of the flan is set.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until completely chilled.
  10. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the pie dish and invert onto a serving plate.
