  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  4. Peel and core the apples, then slice them into thin wedges. Toss the apple slices with cinnamon.
  5. Spread half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Arrange half of the apple slices on top. Repeat with the remaining batter and apple slices.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving.
