  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just blended.
  5. Peel, core, and slice the pears. Toss the pear slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  6. Spread half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Arrange the pear slices on top of the batter. Spoon the remaining batter over the pears, spreading evenly.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving.
