Earthquake Cake gets its name from the way the cake ‘cracks’ and ‘shifts’ during baking, resembling an earthquake.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and milk. Stir until well combined.
  3. Spread the cake batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, and beat until creamy.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture onto the cake batter. Use a knife to swirl the cream cheese into the cake batter.
  6. Sprinkle the coconut flakes, pecans, and chocolate chips over the top.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until the cake is set.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 30 minutes.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
