Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and remaining granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Spread half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Arrange half of the apple slices on top. Repeat with the remaining batter and apple slices.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve the Dutch Apple Cake warm or at room temperature.
