  4. Stir in the boiling water to thin the batter. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once the cakes are cooled, spread whipped cream on top of one cake layer. Place the sliced strawberries on top of the whipped cream.
  9. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with whipped cream.
