  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk and coffee. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is still warm, poke holes all over the top with a skewer or fork.
  9. Slowly pour the rum over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
  10. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.
  11. In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
