In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes.

Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).

In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil.

Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and shape them into pretzels.

Boil each pretzel in the baking soda water for 30 seconds, then transfer them to a baking sheet.

Sprinkle coarse salt on top of each pretzel.

Bake the pretzels for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
