  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the dates and boiling water. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the date mixture. Mix well.
  5. Stir in the chopped walnuts and chopped dates.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
