  2. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir until smooth and remove from heat.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and eggs until pale and creamy.
  4. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once the cake is completely cooled, spread caramel sauce evenly over the top.
  10. In a small saucepan, heat the chestnuts over medium heat until warm.
  11. Dust the chestnuts with edible gold dust.
  12. Arrange the gold-dusted chestnuts on top of the caramel sauce.
