  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate and butter together in the microwave, stirring occasionally until smooth.
  3. In a separate large bowl, combine sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until well mixed.
  4. Stir in the melted chocolate mixture.
  5. In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
  9. Once cooled, frost with whipped cream.
