Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and orange zest.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternately with the orange juice and sour cream. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. In a small saucepan, heat the whipping cream until it begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the dark chocolate. Stir until smooth and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  7. Pour the chocolate ganache over the cooled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Decorate with orange slices, if desired.
  8. Let the cake rest for 30 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
