  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Fold in the cranberries and chopped apples.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle with half of the brown sugar mixture. Pour the remaining batter over the top and sprinkle with the remaining brown sugar mixture.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
