  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
  6. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch (5 cm) thick. Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones from the dough. Place the scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let the scones cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
