  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack and let it cool completely.
  7. Once cooled, you can frost or decorate the cake as desired.
