Crush the chocolate cookies in a food processor until finely ground.

In a medium bowl, combine the cookie crumbs and melted butter. Press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish.

Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven and let it cool.

In a saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt.

Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Gradually whisk in about 1 cup of the hot milk mixture.

Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, for an additional 2 minutes.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chopped semi-sweet chocolate until smooth.

Pour the pudding into the cooled crust and smooth the top.

Cover the pie with plastic wrap, making sure the plastic wrap touches the surface of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming.
