Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined. Stir in the boiling water.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cakes are baking, prepare the praline topping. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, brown sugar, and unsalted butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in the chopped pecans.
  7. Once the cakes are done, remove them from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. To assemble the cake, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread half of the praline topping over the cake. Place the second cake layer on top and spread the remaining praline topping over it.
  9. Serve the chocolate praline cake at room temperature and enjoy!
