Chocolate-Orange Layer Cake
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.
-
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate. Let it sit for 1 minute, then whisk until smooth.
-
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of chocolate ganache on top. Repeat with the remaining layers.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice to make the glaze. Drizzle the glaze over the top of the cake.
-
Garnish with orange slices, if desired. Serve and enjoy!
