Chocolate Heart Layer Cake with Chocolate-Cinnamon Mousse
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
-
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
For the chocolate-cinnamon mousse, melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Let it cool slightly.
-
In a separate bowl, whip the whipping cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cinnamon, and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
-
Gently fold the whipped cream into the melted chocolate until well combined. Refrigerate the mousse for 30 minutes to firm up.
-
To assemble the cake, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of chocolate-cinnamon mousse on top. Repeat with the remaining cake layers and mousse.
-
For the ganache, heat the whipping cream in a small saucepan until it begins to steam. Remove from heat and pour over the dark chocolate. Stir until smooth and glossy.
-
Pour the ganache over the assembled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Decorate with fresh berries.
-
Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the mousse to set.
-
Serve chilled and enjoy!
